About
Used by the top 100 largest law firms worldwide
Thomson Reuters 3E Elite legal solutions form the core foundation for some of the world’s largest, most successful, and innovative law firms – the Am Law 200, Am Law 100, and Global 100 – to help drive firms’ business operations into the future. The SaaS platform comprises billing, proforma management, timekeeping, and matter management applications.
The problem
No design system and little innovation
When I joined the design team at Thomson Reuters in 2018, much of the Elite 3E suite—comprising legal and financial software products—was fragmented, with no unified design language or component consistency across applications.
Disparate
Tired UI
Users unknown
Voice-agnostic
The problem solution
Design overhaul, end-user participation, feature parity, and innovation
I collaborated closely with fellow product designers to establish a centralized design system and reusable component library. This initiative laid the groundwork for consistent, scalable UI patterns across the 3E product family.
I also conducted product-specific design audits across the three applications I was responsible for designing – 3E Workspace, 3E Proforma, and 3E Mattersphere – and identified several usability issues that needed improvement.
Next, it was clear that these products had fallen behind in terms of their feature sets, so I performed multiple competitive analyses to determine gaps.
Finally, I was able to gain access to end users and, with the help of my PM, conducted user interviews and design reviews.
The design solution
Crafting a harmonized, modern SaaS platform
Beginning with a solid design system and interaction patterns, designers collaborated to achieve a cohesive design language across their respective applications. I was able to work on three applications throughout my tenure at Thomson Reuters, and was able to create client design review boards and illicit user feedback on new, innovative features for my products.
